A shudder.

I bought my car in September 1997 from Hyundai Midrand and was told that courtesy cars would be available at all branches when cars are serviced.

When it came time for the first free service I complained that there was a shudder while driving and that it was more pronounced under braking. I was told that no one could find a shudder and it was left at that. At all subsequent services I complained of the same thing even after having had my wheels balanced and aligned. Finally, the after complaining of the same thing to the Hyundai workshop manager in Tzaneen, he found that the brake disc on the right front had been alternatively tempered and worn, thereby causing the brakes to grab and release. He didn’t have a spare but removed one from a new car on the floor. One happy customer. Till it started again.

A few days after every service a pleasant young lady would call to enquire if I was happy with the service and the car in general. At every opportunity I complained of this shudder. No response. After the 100000km service (December 1998) I received the same call, so I phoned Hyundai Head Office and spoke to Mr.Rautenbach. I suggested that this was a waste of his time and mine as no complaints were actioned. He then asked me to take my car to the Centurion branch for them to sort it out. When I called to collect my car they had sent it for wheel alignment and had sent the bill to Mr.Rautenbach. I showed then all my wheel alignment read-outs and told them that they had wasted their money and my time. In January I had new tyres fitted again and had the wheel alignment done and took the print outs back to the Centurion branch. The manager that I had dealt with was leaving and just said that he was at a loss as to why I had the shudder and why my tyres were wearing out so soon.

I've given up on the shudder.
